Portstewart Strand is a stunning two-mile stretch of golden sand on Northern Irelandโs Causeway Coast, offering breath-taking views of the Atlantic Ocean, Mussenden Temple, and the Inishowen Peninsula. Managed by the National Trust since 1981, the beach has received European Blue Flag status due to its excellent water quality and management.
The extensive sand dunes, which are a designated Area of Special Scientific Interest, the strand provides a habitat for a variety of wildlife, including rare butterflies and ground-nesting birds.
Dogs are welcome, with some areas where they can be off-lead, making it a fantastic spot for pet owners. With convenient parking on the beach itself, nearby dining options, and accessibility features, Portstewart Strand is a must-visit for those looking to experience the natural beauty of Northern Irelandโs coastline.
It's important to keep dogs on leads to protect grazing cattle and ground-nesting birds; however, dogs can be let off the lead beyond post 10. Water for dogs is available at the entrance and at Harry's Shack, and dog waste bins are provided throughout the estate.
