Fathom Forest

Fathom Forest is a beautiful, hidden woodland escape clinging to the steep eastern slopes of Fathom Mountain (and the adjacent Flagstaff Hill), sitting just a few miles south of Newry City. Positioned right on the border within the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), this quiet, lesser-known forest offers an incredible vantage point over the Newry River estuary as it opens up into the dramatic Carlingford Lough fjord. The forest features a moss-cloaked, primeval understory beneath a dense canopy of pine, larch, and beech trees. Entirely free of the commercialised hustle of larger forest parks, Fathom Forest is a peaceful, rugged haven for hikers who want raw, untouched nature combined with sweeping, postcard-worthy coastal views.
