Castle Gardens is one of Lisburn’s most important historic spaces, once home to Lisburn Castle — a 17th-century fortified manor house built by the Conway family, former landlords of the area. After the passing of Sir Richard Wallace and later Lady Wallace, the Gardens were gifted to the people of Lisburn by Lady Wallace’s heir, Sir John Murray Scott, in 1903.
In 2008, the upper 19th-century gardens and original 17th-century terraces were carefully restored by Lisburn City Council with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. As part of the project, the World War II air raid shelter on site was transformed into an education centre for schools and community groups.
Today, Castle Gardens offers a peaceful green retreat in the heart of Lisburn, blending history with a place for the community to enjoy.
