Founded in 2015, Rosieโs Trust is the only charity in Northern Ireland dedicated to helping cancer patients, people receiving end of life care and older people with mobility issues to keep their companion pets by their side.
For people in Northern Ireland who are isolated, lonely and vulnerable, their pets are often their reason to live. They act as their family, their carer, their companion and their best friend. They give comfort and unconditional love, and a reason to get up in the morning.
But when these people find themselves in difficult circumstances, be it going through cancer treatment, or dealing with illness and mobility issues, they can find it difficult to continue caring for their pets. This means that in their lowest moments, when they need them the most, people are forced to give up their pets. Theyโre forced to give up their best friends, their family, and their reason to live. At Rosieโs Trust, we prevent this from happening.
SUPPORT WHEN ITโS NEEDED MOST
Our trained volunteers give a much-needed helping hand to people in Northern Ireland receiving end of life care, older people living with mobility issues, and those being treated for cancer, to help care for their pets. By doing this, owners no longer have to face the difficult decision of giving up their beloved companion. Instead, they can focus on looking after themselves with the peace of mind that their best friend is happy, healthy and by their side.
ADDRESSING SOCIAL ISOLATION FOR THE MOST VULNERABLE PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY
Through our work, we check in on some of the most vulnerable and isolated people in Northern Ireland, creating meaningful friendships and support networks. Our volunteers also serve as a useful mechanism for engaging other health and social services, ensuring people are getting the support they need.
