Featured on BBC’s Greatest Gardens, Greba Gardens is a hidden wonderland carved out of an old disused quarry. Owners Richard and Beverley have transformed the rugged landscape into a three-acre paradise of natural woodland, mossy paths, and tranquil ponds. It’s a sensory treat for both humans and hounds.
Why We Love It
Total Peace: Because visits are often by appointment or private slot, you frequently have the entire enchanting space to yourself.
The "Lost World" Vibe: With stone bridges, high quarry walls, and lush ferns, it feels like stepping into a fairytale.
Dog Friendly: The owners are very welcoming to dogs, making it a rare "botanical garden" experience where your pup isn't just tolerated, but invited.
Good to Know
Booking is Essential: You usually need to book a private time slot via their Facebook page or by phone. It is generally open from March to November.Terrain: Expect meandering moss paths and stepping stones. It’s beautiful but can be slippery and isn't suitable for strollers or those with mobility issues.
Dog Policy: Dogs must be kept on a short lead at all times to protect the delicate planting and resident wildlife (including a very friendly white cat!).Safety: There are deep ponds and high, unguarded quarry drops—keep a close eye on your pup!
Top Tip: After your garden wander, head into Greyabbey village (2 mins away) to browse the famous antique shops—many of which are also dog-friendly!
