Belfast Exposed is an independent, not-for-profit organisation and registered charity based in Belfastโs Cathedral Quarter. Established in 1983 by local photographers seeking to challenge how the cityโs experience of conflict was portrayed, the organisation has maintained a strong socially engaged approach. Today, it continues to respond to contemporary developments in photography and wider cultural and political contexts.
At the core of Belfast Exposedโs work is the belief that photography should be open to all. It is an accessible and powerful medium that helps us examine our past, understand our present and shape our future. The organisation collaborates with photographers, artists, academics, community groups and business partners to champion the creative and social impact that photography can offer.
Belfast Exposed operates four public galleries showcasing work from internationally recognised practitioners, local photographers and their own Archive, along with the โFuturesโ programme supporting emerging talent. They manage an extensive archive documenting political, social and cultural change in Northern Ireland; deliver wide-ranging educational and community outreach activity; provide tailored training for the public; and offer accredited programmes for schools and community groups. The organisation also supplies a suite of corporate services, including venue hire for meetings, presentations, product launches, networking events and bespoke hospitality.
