Brackagh Nature Reserve is a wonderfully wild, untouched 100-hectare fen and peatland oasis located just outside Portadown, County Armagh. Recognised as a National Nature Reserve and an Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI), this unique landscape is the result of over 300 years of historic turf cutting. When the top layers of acidic peat were removed, they exposed the ancient, nutrient-rich fen peat underneath, creating an intricate, labyrinth-like mosaic of deep drainage channels, shallow mirror-like pools, and mossy ramparts. Cloaked in dense willow and alder woodlands that open out into lush, wild marshland, Brackagh offers a completely traffic-free, highly atmospheric, and deeply primitive nature experience for those who love getting off the beaten track.
