Killynether Wood is an enchanting, ancient woodland escape nestled on the steep southern slopes of Scrabo Hill, just outside Newtownards in County Down. This beautiful 43-acre hidden gem is a designated Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI) due to its incredibly rare, ancient hazel and ash coppice. The wood features a dramatic, boulder-strewn landscape, remnants of the area's rich quarrying history, where old stone faces are completely cloaked in lush wild ferns and emerald mosses. In the springtime, the entire forest floor erupts into a fragrant, vibrant sea of native bluebells and wild garlic. Tucked away quietly beneath Scrabo Tower, Killynether offers a deeply atmospheric, sheltered, and fairytale-like wander.
Dogs are warmly welcomed on leads.
