Best Bark Teams Up with Forestside Vets to Launch Dog Safety Campaign for the Bank Holiday Heatwave

With high temperatures expected this bank holiday, weโ€™ve launched a new Dog Safety campaign in partnership with Forestside Veterinary Clinic, because sunny days should be safe ones for our dogs too.

The campaign tackles common but often overlooked warm weather risks for pets, like hot pavements, heatstroke, and beach hazards. Itโ€™s full of simple, practical advice that can help prevent serious harm while you’re out enjoying the sunshine.

โ€œEven the most caring owners can miss things when the sunโ€™s out,โ€ said Amรฉe, founder of Best Bark. โ€œHot sand, toxic algae, overheatingโ€”it all adds up. This campaign is about giving people the tools to spot danger early and make small changes that could save their dogโ€™s life.โ€

Weโ€™ve created four easy-to-read guides, each focused on a different environment:

  • Keeping your dog safe in warm weather

  • Keeping your dog safe at the beach

  • Keeping your dog safe on a hike

  • Keeping your dog safe in the forest

From harmful seaweed and jellyfish to overheating on trails, each guide breaks down what to watch for, what to avoid, and what to do in an emergency.

A few key tips from the campaign:

  • Walk during cooler hours โ€“ Before 11am or after 3pm

  • Use the 5-second test โ€“ If the pavementโ€™s too hot for your hand, itโ€™s too hot for paws

  • Carry fresh water โ€“ Avoid letting dogs drink from the sea or rock pools

  • Provide shade โ€“ Always give your dog a cool place to rest

  • Never leave dogs in cars โ€“ Not even for a minute

  • Know the signs of heatstroke โ€“ Panting, drooling, vomiting, collapse

  • Cool-down options โ€“ Try dog-safe frozen treats or cooling mats

  • Go easy on the exercise โ€“ Stick to short, gentle walks

All the health advice has been reviewed by the experts at Forestside Vets, whoโ€™ve been incredible collaborators on this project. Weโ€™re sharing the campaign across our Instagram and Facebook, with bite-sized tips that are easy to save, share, and stick to.

Best Bark started as a way to help dog owners find great places to visit across Northern Ireland. Now, weโ€™re making sure those outings are safe too. Whether youโ€™re hitting the beach or heading into the forest this weekend, a few small steps can make a big difference.
